Privacy Policy

Welcome to Storyboon
At Storyboon, operated by Sahtu Press (“we,” “us,” or “our”), we care about your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Storyboon platform.
1. Information We Collect
We collect three categories of information when you use Storyboon: account information, the work you create on the platform, and basic usage data.
Account Information
- Email address (used for passwordless authentication)
- Account creation date
- Magic link verification codes (temporary, expire after 10 minutes)
Studio Data
- Stories you create and edit through the platform
- Project data, including character notes, world details, and outlines
- Tool usage history
- Story analysis results and diagnostic feedback
- Draft stories and revisions saved in your account
- Payment history for Studio+ subscriptions and Boon Ink purchases ($5 to $18 bundles)
- Subscription status and billing information
Usage Information
- Device type and browser type
- IP address (anonymized for analytics, see Section 7)
- Time spent on the platform and features used
- Page views and navigation patterns (via Google Analytics)
- Conversion events such as tool usage and Boon Ink purchases
- In-product steps you reach while signed in, such as starting a project, creating a story, or writing a page. We record the action and a timestamp, never the words you write, so we can see where the product confuses people and fix it.
2. Passwordless Authentication
Storyboon uses a passwordless authentication system. We don’t store passwords; you can’t lose what we don’t have. When you sign in, we send a 6-digit verification code to your email. The code expires after 10 minutes and can only be used once. Only someone with access to your email can sign in to your account. You stay signed in until you explicitly sign out or clear your browser session.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide and improve the Storyboon platform, save your project data so you can return to it across sessions and devices, process payments and manage subscription billing, send important updates about your account, customize your experience with story guidance, analyze platform performance, and protect against fraud. Aggregated user behavior is tracked through Google Analytics to understand how the platform is used and where it can be improved.
4. Pala Processing
Pala uses Anthropic’s Claude API to read passages of your story and respond with editorial guidance. When you ask Pala a question, the relevant text is transmitted via TLS-encrypted connection to Anthropic, processed in real time, and the response is returned to you. Your story is not retained by Anthropic beyond the time required for processing.
The project kickstart step (which extracts characters, world facts, and plot elements from your seed text) is processed by Google’s Gemini API under the same terms: encrypted transit, no retention beyond processing, no model training.
Pala guidance covers narrative elements such as story structure, character development, pacing and tension, and craft techniques specific to picture books, comic scripts, and screenplays.
Your stories are never used to train or improve language models. Your stories are not shared with any third party except the processing providers named above for the purposes described. Your stories remain in your private Storyboon account and are not published or distributed without your explicit permission. You can delete your stories and any associated Pala data at any time. When you delete your account, your stories are permanently removed within 30 days.
We may change Pala or kickstart providers in the future. If we do, we will update this section of the Privacy Policy with reasonable notice.
Under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the legal bases for processing your story content are contractual necessity (we need to process your story to provide the service you requested), legitimate interest (improving the service to serve users better), and your consent (your use of the service constitutes consent to this processing as described).
You have the right to access your stored stories and Pala data, request a copy of your project data by emailing support@storyboon.com, delete your account and all associated stories, request information about how your data is processed, and object to Pala processing. If you object to Pala processing, we cannot provide the editorial service that depends on it.
5. Your Stories and Content
You own your original stories and project content. We store your work securely so you can access it across sessions and devices. You can delete your stories and project data at any time through your account. We maintain backups for system reliability, and deleted content may persist briefly in those backups before complete removal.
6. Information Sharing
We share your information only with the service providers who help us operate Storyboon:
- Stripe (payment processing)
- Anthropic PBC, Claude API (Pala processing)
- Google LLC, Gemini API (project kickstart processing)
- Google LLC, Google Analytics (website analytics and conversion tracking)
- Other operational service providers as needed to run the platform
We do not sell your personal information.
7. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with the platform. Google Analytics tracks page views, user navigation, conversion events, device information such as browser type and screen size, and general geographic location at the country or region level.
Personally identifiable information is not tracked. IP addresses are anonymized through Google Analytics’ built-in feature. Reports are aggregated and anonymous. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking through your browser settings or Google’s opt-out tools.
We use this data to improve site performance and user experience, identify which features are most valuable, track conversion rates for business decisions, and identify and fix technical issues.
8. Children’s Privacy
Storyboon is not intended for users under 13 years of age. Users between 13 and 18 should have parental consent before creating an account. We collect minimal information from younger users, and the platform is designed to keep content age-appropriate for the children’s-fiction context many of our writers work in.
9. Your Privacy Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Update your account details
- Delete your content
- Request a copy of your stories and project data by email
- Close your account
- Opt out of marketing emails
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@storyboon.com or use the corresponding controls in your account settings.
10. Data Security
We encrypt your data in transit and at rest. We use secure servers and update our security measures regularly. We protect against unauthorized access using industry-standard practices. While we work to maintain strong protection, no system can guarantee absolute security against every possible threat.
11. California Privacy Rights
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- The right to know what personal information is collected
- The right to delete personal information
- The right to opt out of information sharing
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights
12. Changes to Privacy Policy
